Greenville County is located in the Piedmont section of the
eastern slope of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The terrain is rolling with the first
ridge of the mountains approximately 20 miles to the northwest and the main ridge about 55
miles to the northwest. The elevation of Greenville County ranges from 800 to 1,100 feet.
Greenville County is located in the northwestern part of South
Carolina and is bordered by Pickens, Anderson, Laurens and Spartanburg Counties in South
Carolina and by Transylvania, Henderson and Polk Counties in North Carolina. The County is
located almost equidistant between New York and Miami and positioned on the I-85 corridor
halfway between Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. Greenville County is South
Carolina's most populous county and is the central location of a market area that serves a
population of more than a million.
